Job Summary

Mill Creek Bagel Company is looking for friendly, reliable team members to join our front-of-house and sandwich line team. This role is cross-trained to handle customer service, cashier duties, and sandwich preparation. We value quality, efficiency, and genuine hospitality, and we’re looking for people who take pride in their work.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service & Cashier Duties

• Greet customers with a friendly and positive attitude, and assist them with their orders.

• Answer any questions about our menu, including ingredients and product recommendations.

• Strive to provide customers with a smooth and enjoyable experience from ordering to checkout.

• Answer menu questions and make recommendations

• Accurately process cash, credit, and debit card transactions using the point-of-sale (POS) system.

• Ensure the cash drawer is balanced at the beginning and end of each shift.

• Handle refunds, exchanges, and discounts according to company policies.

Product Display and Stocking:

• Maintain the appearance of the front counter, ensuring it is clean, organized, and fully stocked.

• Restock baked goods, beverages, and other items as needed throughout the day.

• Assist in preparing simple items such as coffee or pre-packaged goods when required.

Sandwich & Food Preparation

• Prepare and assemble sandwiches according to menu specifications and customer preferences.

• Slice, chop, and portion ingredients, ensuring freshness and quality in every order.

• Follow food safety and hygiene protocols during all preparation tasks.

Food Safety & Cleanliness

• Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations

• Obtain a valid Food Handler Certification within 30 days of hire

• Complete daily cleaning, opening, and closing tasks

Teamwork & Operations

• Work collaboratively with team members during busy service periods

• Assist with opening and closing duties as assigned

• Communicate clearly and respectfully with coworkers and management

Qualifications

• Experience: Previous experience as a sandwich maker, line cook, or in a similar role preferred but not required. Previous experience in a cashier or customer service role preferred but not required. Training will be provided.

• Skills: Strong attention to detail, ability to multitask, and knowledge of basic kitchen safety practices. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, basic math skills for handling transactions, and ability to operate a POS system.

• Attributes: Friendly, reliable, and able to work efficiently in a fast-paced setting. Must be available for morning shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.

The ideal candidate will be personable, reliable, and able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service:

• Greet customers warmly and assist them with their orders.

• Answer questions about our coffee menu, including drink customization and product recommendations.

• Strive to provide customers with a smooth and enjoyable experience from ordering to checkout.

Beverage Preparation:

• Prepare coffee, espresso-based drinks, teas, and other beverages according to company recipes and standards.

• Operate and maintain espresso machines and other coffee equipment with precision.

• Monitor inventory of coffee supplies and communicate restocking needs to management.

Cleanliness and Maintenance:

• Keep the coffee bar and equipment clean, organized, and fully stocked.

• Sanitize work surfaces, tools, and equipment according to safety and hygiene protocols

• Follow all personal hygiene protocols to maintain a healthy environment for customers and staff.

• Report any equipment or maintenance issues to management promptly.

Collaboration and Stocking:

• Work closely with other team members to ensure smooth operations during busy hours.

• Restock baked goods, beverages, and supplies as needed throughout the shift.

• Assist in other front-of-house duties when required.

Qualifications

Experience:

• Previous experience in a barista or customer service role is preferred but not required.

  • Assist in preparing other baked goods, such as pastries, muffins, and cookies, as needed.

• Operational Efficiency:

  • Follow established recipes and production schedules to ensure timely preparation of products.

  • Manage inventory of baking ingredients, notifying management of any shortages or ordering needs.

  • Operate and maintain baking equipment, including mixers, ovens, and proofers, ensuring they are cleaned and sanitized regularly.

• Quality and Food Safety:

  • Food Handler Certification required within 30 days of hire

  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and cleanliness standards, including proper handling and storage of ingredients.

  • Monitor baking times and temperatures to achieve perfect results and avoid over or undercooking.
